Snafu: see you in September!

Welcome to Snafu, a newsletter about resilience, learning and behavior change.

I'm taking a break from a weekly article about resilience to talk about Responsive Conference.

Responsive is the annual event I produce, and the team and I have been busy crafting an incredible experience.

I hope you'll join us!

Join us in September!

Ten years ago, the Responsive.org Manifesto laid out that “The rate of change continues to accelerate” and “The future is increasingly hard to predict.”

Today, those principles are more relevant than ever.

Our lives are rife with uncertainty – from the acceleration of AI to generalized anxiety about the state of the world.

This rapid rate of change provides the opportunity for impact. We have the opportunity to reinvent how we work.

Established in 2016, Responsive Conference is an annual summit that brings together 300 executives, founders and entrepreneurs who want to make meaningful shifts – within their organizations and in the world.

At Responsive Conference 2025, you’ll discover tactics, tools and connections for how to Design for Change – within your organizations and yourselves.

This year’s conference focuses the lens of organization design on three main topics:

  • The acceleration of AI
  • Climate change
  • Politics & the state of the world

Join us at Responsive Conference 2025 and design your teams and organizations for the future.

3 things I’ve loved this week

Framework I'm loving:

Pixar's Rules for Storytelling

We have two folks from Pixar on stage at Responsive Conference 2025. Jaime Woolf was the director of culture and learning at Pixar for more than a decade, and Bobby Podesta is currently an animator at Pixar. They are going to discuss the role of story within organizations and teach tactics that anyone can use for recruiting talent or selling their services.

Book I'm enjoying:

The Metabolic Approach to Cancer

I've been reading about cancer ever since my best friend was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022. The Metabolic Approach to Cancer is the most approachable book I've read about this atypical approach, which I believe will be the future of cancer treatment.

For more technical reading, the go-to book is Cancer as a Metabolic Disease by Thomas Seyfried.

Quote I'm considering:

"I’m not saying that you have to be a reader to save your soul in the modern world. I’m saying it helps.” -Walter Mosley

Welcome to Snafu, a newsletter about resilience and behavior change. Great athletes don’t just train for performance – they train for chaos. Most of us wait until disaster has struck to figure out how we’ll react. As a result, we panic, freeze, and make bad decisions. Welcome to Snafu, a newsletter about resilience, learning, and behavior change. There are two different ways to tackle something difficult. You can plot, and plan, and spend months studying your challenge. And then you can make a single attempt – and hopefully succeed. Or you can do the opposite, and study your challenge while attempting it. Both of these approaches are valid, but I prefer the second. If you're enjoying Snafu, it would mean the world to me if you would share it! Was it sent...

Welcome to Snafu, a newsletter about resilience, learning, and behavior change. "Tilting at windmills“ means going to battle despite the certain knowledge that you can’t win. Not every battle is worth fighting. But some – even unlikely ones – align with your values, stretch your capabilities, and help you grow. Perhaps we all ought to spend a bit more time tilting at windmills If you're enjoying Snafu, it would mean the world to me if you would share it! Was it sent to you? Subscribe here. ↓...
